Will My Refund Be Delayed This Year?

Due to new legislation, some refunds may be delayed this year, but not all of them. The PATH Act (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes) requires the IRS to hold refunds for tax returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) until at least February 15th. The new law gives the IRS additional time to detect and prevent fraud. If you are not claiming the tax credits previously mentioned, your refund may not be affected by the delay.  Taxpayers are encouraged to file as they normally would.

The IRS, along with industry professionals, continue to enhance security measures to protect against identity theft and refund fraud. If you have questions concerning these changes, contact our office to speak with one of our professionals.
